What Are Reiki Shares? And What Happens at One?
A Reiki Share sounds lovely. Right up until you realize you have no idea what actually happens at one.
You might start asking yourself questions.
Do I have to know everybody?
Do I have to be really experienced?
Am I giving Reiki in front of a room full of people who are quietly judging me or my hand positions?
Nope.
At least not at my Reiki Shares.
So, what is a Reiki Share?
A Reiki Share is a place for people who have been attuned to Reiki to come together, practice, receive, ask questions and stay connected to the energy.
That’s it.
It’s not mysterious.
And it’s not a competition about who feels the most energy.
You don’t have to arrive feeling confident
In fact, one of the best reasons to come may be that you don’t.
Maybe you finished a class recently and want more practice.
Maybe you learned Reiki years ago and feel rusty.
Maybe you use Reiki all the time but miss being around other practitioners.
Maybe you have questions that didn’t exist until you went home and started practicing on your own.
All lineages and all levels are welcome here.
What actually happens?
Every Reiki Share is a little different, and the basic idea is pretty simple.
We come together as a group, give Reiki, receive Reiki, ask questions, practice, and connect with other people who are attuned to Reiki.
We’ll usually begin by settling in and sharing introductions and intentions.
From there, we’ll spend time giving Reiki to and receiving Reiki from one another. Depending on the size of the group, one person may receive while several practitioners offer Reiki at the same time, or we may work in smaller groups or pairs.
And yes, receiving Reiki from several people at once can feel very different from a one-on-one session.
You still get to choose what you’re comfortable with.
Prefer hands hovering rather than touching? Let us know.
Want to work with a different person, receive from fewer people, or sit out a round? Let me know.
And when we share our experiences, you’re welcome to speak or simply listen. You don’t have to share anything you’d rather keep to yourself.
This is also a space to practice.
A Reiki Share is a place to use what you’ve learned, notice what you notice, ask questions, share experiences and build grounded confidence.
If you’re newer to Reiki, you may be wondering whether your hands are in the right place, whether you’re feeling what you’re supposed to feel, or whether everyone else somehow knows more than you do.
And those are exactly the kinds of conversations Reiki Shares are good for.
If you’ve been practicing for years, you still get something from being around other practitioners, receiving Reiki yourself and getting back into the rhythm of shared practice.
There’s time throughout the share to talk about what came up, ask questions and share observations.
Nobody needs to interpret someone else’s experience or decide what it means for them. We can notice, share and let each person decide what resonates.
We’ll finish by coming back together as a group, wrapping up the evening and giving everyone a chance to get grounded before they leave.
The community part
Reiki can become a very solitary practice after training.
You go home. You practice on yourself. Maybe you work with family or clients. And unless you deliberately stay connected, there may not be many places to talk with people who understand what you’re learning.
That’s one of the reasons I love Reiki Shares.
You can ask the question that has been sitting in your head for three weeks.
You can hear someone else ask a question you didn’t even know you had.
You can practice without needing to prove anything.
And you can be around people who are still learning too. (Because all of us are.)
What should I bring?
Bring yourself.
Wear something comfortable. Layers are useful because people experience temperature differently when they’re lying still. Deodorant and breath mints are encouraged in this small space.
And bring your questions.
There will be snacks, tea and water available when you arrive.
If you’ve been thinking about coming
Maybe you’ve talked yourself out of it because it’s been too long since your training.
Maybe you’re nervous because you won’t know anyone.
Maybe you’re worried everybody else will be more experienced.
Please come anyway.
Community is where confidence builds and friendships grow.
Our Reiki Shares are held monthly and are free for anyone already attuned to Reiki. All lineages and levels are welcome.
We meet in SE Calgary. You’ll receive the address when you register.
You’ll find upcoming dates and details about joining us on the Reiki Shares page.
