about floki Thatcher

Chief Furry Officer (CFO) & Energy Director

Floki came into my life after spending far too long at the Cochrane Humane Society, where this big two-year-old, 70-pound Shepherd mix was known as Loki. He was a fearful, anxious dog who was unsure of the world around him.

I knew pretty quickly that Loki wasn’t coming home with me. I did not want the God of Mischief living in my house. So Loki became Floki. This name suited him much better. And that was the beginning of a pretty remarkable life together.

Over the years, we’ve learned a lot together. With the help of some wonderful dog behaviourists, trainers, plenty of patience, thousands of treats and a whole lot of practice, Floki has grown into a much more confident, very calm dog who loves walks, car rides, agility, rally, tricks, learning new things and being included in all aspects of my life.

Fear and anxiety are still part of who he is at his core. Floki still lives with severe separation anxiety, which means our lives are built a little differently. As he feels safe when he sees me, he comes with me everywhere I go. Our days are planned with his needs in mind, and he has taught me more than I ever expected about meeting someone where they are rather than where I think they should be or want them to be.

Around Reiki in the Rockies, Floki serves as Chief Furry Officer, responsible for grounding, regular breaks, getting outside, staying present and reminding all of us that sometimes the best next step is simply the one you can take today.

Please Note: As Floki is always at my side, he will be present for all in-person Reiki sessions, classes, shares, and workshops. Please ensure you are comfortable sharing space with a dog before booking.
